A Université Laval innovator is being recognized for her outstanding effort to launch and rapidly scale a start-up company focused on delivering next-generation plasma technology to enhance the characteristics of any flat surface or material—including an anti-fog treatment to keep the lenses of endoscopes clear during medical procedures.
The breakthrough work has earned Marine Queffeulou the Mitacs Innovation Award—Start-Up Innovator of the Year. Supported by Quebec’s Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie, Mitacs connects businesses and researchers to drive competitiveness and productivity in sectors such as cleantech, artificial intelligence, aerospace, life sciences, quantum, energy and social innovation. The award will be presented at a ceremony at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on November 19.
Queffeulou was honoured as CEO of Kalego Solutions, a company she co-founded with biomaterials expert Jacopo Profili. They created an innovative plasma reactor called Plasmino used to treat surfaces. Plasmino is now using the innovative platform to develop a simple, yet permanent, anti-fog coating for endoscopes and to solve other industrial challenges.
