When you hear the words “sustainable paint” you might think of one with no VOCs, but there’s a new coating that promises to be even more eco-friendly.
The new plasmonic paint is lighter and longer-lasting than traditional ones while also offering a cooling effect as it reflects light and absorbs less heat. This type of colour production uses aluminum particle colour flakes which is called “structural colour,” and it is the way many species produce their colour. The range of colours and hues in the natural world is astonishing and it is more stable over time, meaning the colours won’t fade. The paint weighs a lot less, as it offers 100 percent reflection with only a single ultrathin layer of pigment.
